Zechariah

Chapter 1

1 In the eighth month of the second year, in the reign of Darius, the word of the Lord came to Zechariah the son of Berechiah, son of Iddo, the prophet, saying:

2 The Lord was angered with great anger against your fathers.

3 And you shall say to them: Thus says the Lord Almighty: Return to me, and I will return to you, says the Lord.

4 And do not be like your fathers, whom the former prophets accused, saying: Thus says the Lord Almighty: Turn away from your evil ways and from your evil practices; but they did not heed to listen to me, says the Lord.

5 Your fathers, where are they? And the prophets, will they live forever?

6 But receive my words and my statutes, all that I command by my spirit to my servants the prophets, which overtook your fathers. And they answered and said: As the Lord Almighty has determined to do to us according to our ways and according to our practices, so he has done to us.

7 On the twenty-fourth day of the eleventh month—this is the month Shebat—in the second year, in the reign of Darius, the word of the Lord came to Zechariah the son of Berechiah, son of Iddo, the prophet, saying:

8 I saw by night, and behold, a man mounted on a red horse, and he was standing between the two shadowy mountains, and behind him were red and dappled and spotted and white horses.

9 And I said: What are these, lord? And the angel who spoke in me said to me: I will show you what these are.

10 And the man standing between the mountains answered and said to me: These are those whom the Lord has sent out to go around the earth.

11 And they answered the angel of the Lord who stood between the mountains and said: We have gone around all the earth, and behold, all the earth is inhabited and at rest.

12 And the angel of the Lord answered and said: O Lord Almighty, how long will you not have mercy on Jerusalem and the cities of Judah, which you have overlooked these seventy years?

13 And the Lord Almighty answered the angel who spoke in me with good words and consoling speeches.

14 And the angel who spoke in me said to me: Cry out, saying: Thus says the Lord Almighty: I have been jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion with a great jealousy,

15 and with great anger I am angry against the nations that join in the attack; for whereas I was angered a little, they joined together for evil.

16 Therefore thus says the Lord: I will return to Jerusalem with compassion, and my house shall be rebuilt in her, says the Lord Almighty, and a measuring line shall yet be stretched out over Jerusalem.

17 And the angel who spoke in me said to me: Cry out, saying: Thus says the Lord Almighty: Cities shall yet overflow with good things, and the Lord will yet have mercy on Zion and will yet choose Jerusalem.

Chapter 2

1 And I lifted up my eyes and looked, and behold, four horns.

2 And I said to the angel who spoke with me, "What are these, lord?" And he said to me, "These are the horns that scattered Judah and Israel."

3 And the Lord showed me four craftsmen.

4 And I said, "What are these coming to do?" And he said to me, "These are the horns that scattered Judah, and they broke Israel, and none of them lifted up his head; and these have come to sharpen them in their hands, the four horns, the nations that lift up a horn against the land of the Lord to scatter it."

5 And I lifted up my eyes and looked, and behold, a man, and in his hand a measuring line.

6 And I said to him, "Where are you going?" And he said to me, "To measure Jerusalem, to see how great its breadth is and how great its length."

7 And behold, the angel who spoke with me stood there, and another angel went out to meet him,

8 and he spoke to him, saying, "Run and speak to that young man, saying, 'Jerusalem shall be inhabited fruitfully, because of the multitude of men and cattle in her midst;

9 and I will be to her, says the Lord, a wall of fire round about, and I will be for glory in her midst.

10 Oh, oh! Flee from the land of the north, says the Lord, for from the four winds of heaven I will gather you, says the Lord;

11 escape to Zion, you who dwell with the daughter of Babylon.

12 For thus says the Lord Almighty: After glory he has sent me against the nations that plundered you, for he who touches you is as one who touches the pupil of his eye;

13 for behold, I bring my hand upon them, and they shall be spoil for those who serve them, and you shall know that the Lord Almighty has sent me.

14 Rejoice and be glad, daughter of Zion, for behold, I am coming and will dwell in your midst, says the Lord.

15 And many nations shall flee to the Lord for refuge in that day, and they shall be his people, and they shall dwell in your midst, and you shall know that the Lord Almighty has sent me to you.

16 And the Lord shall inherit Judah as his portion in the holy land, and he shall yet choose Jerusalem.

17 Let all flesh fear before the face of the Lord, for he has risen up from his holy clouds.'"

Chapter 3

1 And he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the face of the angel of the Lord, and the devil stood at his right hand to oppose him.

2 And the Lord said to the devil, "May the Lord rebuke you, devil, and may the Lord who has chosen Jerusalem rebuke you. Behold, is not this like a brand plucked out of the fire?"

3 And Joshua was clothed in filthy garments, and he stood before the face of the angel.

4 And he answered and said to those standing before his face, saying, "Take the filthy garments off him." And he said to him, "Behold, I have taken away your iniquities; and clothe him in a long robe,

5 and set a clean turban upon his head." And they clothed him with garments and set a clean turban upon his head, and the angel of the Lord stood by.

6 And the angel of the Lord testified to Joshua, saying,

7 "Thus says the Lord Almighty: If you walk in my ways and if you keep my commandments, then you shall judge my house; and if you also guard my court, then I will give you those who walk among these who stand here.

8 Hear now, Joshua the high priest, you and your neighbors who sit before your face, for they are men who watch for signs: for behold, I am bringing my servant, the Branch;

9 for the stone which I have set before the face of Joshua—upon the one stone are seven eyes. Behold, I am digging a pit, says the Lord Almighty, and I will search out all the iniquity of that land in one day.

10 In that day, says the Lord Almighty, you shall each call your neighbor under the vine and under the fig tree."

Chapter 4

1 And the angel who spoke with me returned and roused me, as when a man is roused from his sleep,

2 and he said to me, "What do you see?" And I said, "I have looked, and behold, a lampstand all of gold, with the bowl upon it, and seven lamps upon it, and seven funnels for the lamps upon it;

3 and two olive trees above it, one on the right of the bowl and one on the left."

4 And I asked and said to the angel who spoke with me, saying, "What are these, lord?"

5 And the angel who spoke with me answered and said to me, "Do you not know what these are?" And I said, "No, lord."

6 And he answered and said to me, saying, "This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel, saying, Not by great power nor by might, but by my spirit, says the Lord Almighty.

7 Who are you, O great mountain, before the face of Zerubbabel, that you should prosper? And I will bring forth the stone of the inheritance, an equality of grace, its grace."

8 And the word of the Lord came to me, saying,

9 "The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this house, and his hands shall complete it; and you shall know that the Lord Almighty has sent me to you.

10 For who has despised the small days? And they shall rejoice and shall see the tin stone in the hand of Zerubbabel. These seven are the eyes of the Lord that look upon all the earth."

11 And I answered and said to him, "What are these two olive trees on the right of the lampstand and on the left?"

12 And I asked a second time and said to him, "What are the two branches of the olive trees that are in the hands of the two golden spouts that pour out and draw up the golden funnels?"

13 And he said to me, "Do you not know what these are?" And I said, "No, lord."

14 And he said, "These are the two sons of fatness who stand beside the Lord of all the earth."

Chapter 5

1 And I turned and lifted up my eyes and looked, and behold, a flying sickle.

2 And he said to me, "What do you see?" And I said, "I see a flying sickle, twenty cubits in length and ten cubits in breadth."

3 And he said to me, "This is the curse that goes forth over the face of all the earth; for every thief shall from this be punished unto death, and everyone who swears falsely shall from this be punished unto death.

4 And I will bring it forth, says the Lord Almighty, and it shall enter into the house of the thief and into the house of him who swears by my name falsely, and it shall lodge in the midst of his house and shall consume it, both its timber and its stones."

5 And the angel who was speaking with me went out and said to me, "Lift up your eyes and see what this is that goes forth."

6 And I said, "What is it?" And he said, "This is the measure that goes forth." And he said, "This is their iniquity in all the earth."

7 And behold, a talent of lead being lifted up, and behold, a woman sat in the midst of the measure.

8 And he said, "This is lawlessness." And he cast her into the midst of the measure, and he cast the stone of lead into her mouth.

9 And I lifted up my eyes and looked, and behold, two women going forth, and wind was in their wings, and they had wings like the wings of a hoopoe; and they took up the measure between the earth and the heaven.

10 And I said to the angel who was speaking with me, "Where are these carrying away the measure?"

11 And he said to me, "To build a house for it in the land of Babylon, and to prepare it; and they shall set it there upon its prepared place."

Chapter 6

1 And I turned and lifted up my eyes and looked, and behold, four chariots coming out from between two mountains, and the mountains were mountains of bronze.

2 In the first chariot were red horses, and in the second chariot black horses,

3 and in the third chariot white horses, and in the fourth chariot dappled gray horses.

4 And I answered and said to the angel who was speaking with me, "What are these, lord?"

5 And the angel who was speaking with me answered and said, "These are the four winds of heaven; they go forth to stand before the Lord of all the earth.

6 The one in which were the black horses went forth to the land of the north, and the white ones went forth after them, and the dappled ones went forth to the land of the south,

7 and the gray ones went forth and looked to go, to patrol the earth." And he said, "Go and patrol the earth"; and they patrolled the earth.

8 And he cried out and spoke to me, saying, "Behold, those going forth to the land of the north have given rest to my anger in the land of the north."

9 And the word of the Lord came to me, saying,

10 "Take the things from the captivity, from its rulers and from its useful men and from those who have known it, and you shall go in on that day to the house of Josiah the son of Zephaniah, who has come from Babylon,

11 and you shall take silver and gold and make crowns and set them upon the head of Jesus the son of Josedek, the high priest,

12 and you shall say to him, 'Thus says the Lord Almighty: Behold, a man, Dawn is his name, and from beneath him he shall spring up, and he shall build the house of the Lord;

13 and he shall receive excellence and shall sit and rule upon his throne, and the priest shall be at his right hand, and a counsel of peace shall be between them both.

14 And the crown shall be for those who wait patiently and for its useful men and for those who have known it, and for the favor of the son of Zephaniah, and for a psalm in the house of the Lord.

15 And those far off from them shall come and build in the house of the Lord, and you shall know that the Lord Almighty has sent me to you; and it shall be, if hearing you hear the voice of the Lord your God.'"

Chapter 7

1 And it came to pass in the fourth year of King Darius that the word of the Lord came to Zechariah on the fourth day of the ninth month, which is Chaseleu,

2 and the king sent to Bethel Sarasar and Arbeseer and his men to propitiate the Lord,

3 saying to the priests who were in the house of the Lord Almighty and to the prophets, saying, "The holy offering has come in here in the fifth month, just as I have done already for many years."

4 And the word of the Lord of hosts came to me, saying,

5 "Speak to all the people of the land and to the priests, saying, 'If you fast or mourn in the fifth or in the seventh months—behold, for seventy years—have you truly fasted a fast for me?

6 And if you eat or drink, is it not you who eat and you who drink?

7 Are these not the words which the Lord spoke by the hands of the former prophets, when Jerusalem was inhabited and prospering, and her cities round about, and the hill country and the plain were inhabited?'"

8 And the word of the Lord came to Zechariah, saying,

9 "Thus says the Lord Almighty: Judge righteous judgment, and show mercy and compassion, each one to his brother,

10 and do not oppress the widow and the orphan and the sojourner and the poor, and let no one bear malice in your hearts against his brother."

11 But they refused to pay heed, and they turned a stubborn back, and made their ears heavy so as not to hear,

12 and they set their heart in disobedience so as not to hearken to my law and the words which the Lord Almighty sent by his Spirit by the hands of the former prophets; and there came great wrath from the Lord Almighty.

13 "And it shall be that just as he spoke and they did not listen to him, so shall they cry out and I will not listen," says the Lord Almighty.

14 "And I will cast them out among all the nations which they have not known, and the land shall be made desolate behind them, with none passing through or returning; and they have made a choice land a desolation."

Chapter 8

1 And the word of the Lord Almighty came, saying,

2 Thus says the Lord Almighty: I have been jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion with a great jealousy, and with great wrath I have been jealous for her.

3 Thus says the Lord: I will return to Zion and will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem, and Jerusalem shall be called the true city, and the mountain of the Lord Almighty a holy mountain.

4 Thus says the Lord Almighty: There shall yet sit old men and old women in the streets of Jerusalem, each one holding his staff in his hand because of the multitude of his days;

5 and the streets of the city shall be filled with boys and girls playing in its streets.

6Thus says the Lord Almighty: If it shall be impossible in the sight of the remnant of this people in those days, shall it also be impossible in my sight? says the Lord Almighty.

7 Thus says the Lord Almighty: Behold, I am saving my people from the land of the east and from the land of the west,

8 and I will bring them in and will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem; and they shall be to me a people, and I will be to them a God, in truth and in righteousness.

9 Thus says the Lord Almighty: Let your hands be strong, you who hear in these days these words from the mouth of the prophets, from the day when the house of the Lord Almighty was founded, and since the temple has been built.

10 For before those days the wages of men shall be of no profit, and the wages of cattle shall not exist, and to him who goes out and to him who comes in there shall be no peace because of the affliction; and I will send forth all men, each against his neighbor.

11 But now I will not deal with the remnant of this people according to the former days, says the Lord Almighty,

12 but I will show forth peace: the vine shall give its fruit, and the earth shall give its produce, and the heaven shall give its dew, and I will cause the remnant of my people to inherit all these things.

13 And it shall be that, just as you were a curse among the nations, O house of Judah and house of Israel, so will I save you, and you shall be a blessing; take courage and be strong in your hands.

14 For thus says the Lord Almighty: Just as I purposed to afflict you when your fathers provoked me to anger, says the Lord Almighty, and I did not relent,

15 so have I set myself and purposed in these days to do good to Jerusalem and to the house of Judah; take courage.

16 These are the words which you shall do: speak truth each one to his neighbor, and judge peaceful judgment in your gates,

17 and let none of you devise in your hearts the evil of his neighbor, and love not a false oath; for all these things I have hated, says the Lord Almighty.

18 And the word of the Lord Almighty came to me, saying,

19 Thus says the Lord Almighty: The fast of the fourth month, and the fast of the fifth, and the fast of the seventh, and the fast of the tenth shall be to the house of Judah for joy and for gladness and for good feasts; and you shall rejoice; and love truth and peace.

20 Thus says the Lord Almighty: Many peoples shall yet come, and the inhabitants of many cities;

21 and the inhabitants of five cities shall come together to one city, saying, Let us go to entreat the face of the Lord and to seek the face of the Lord Almighty; I too will go.

22 And many peoples and many nations shall come to seek the face of the Lord Almighty in Jerusalem, and to propitiate the face of the Lord.

23 Thus says the Lord Almighty: In those days, if ten men from all the tongues of the nations take hold, and take hold of the hem of a Jewish man, saying, We will go with you, for we have heard that God is with you.

Chapter 9

1 An oracle of the word of the Lord: in the land of Sedrach and of Damascus is his sacrifice, for the Lord looks upon men and upon all the tribes of Israel;

2 and Emath is within its borders, Tyre and Sidon, because they were exceedingly wise.

3 And Tyre built strongholds for herself and stored up silver like dust and gathered gold like the mire of the streets.

4 Therefore the Lord will take possession of her, and will strike her power into the sea, and she herself will be consumed by fire.

5 Ascalon will see and be afraid, and Gaza also, and will be in great anguish, and Akkaron, because she was put to shame at her downfall; and a king will perish from Gaza, and Ascalon shall not be inhabited.

6 And foreigners will dwell in Azotus, and I will bring down the arrogance of the Philistines.

7 And I will remove their blood from their mouth and their abominations from between their teeth, and this one too will be left for our God, and they will be like a captain of a thousand in Judah, and Akkaron like the Jebusite.

8 And I will set up for my house a rampart, so that none may pass through or return, and no one driving them out shall come upon them any longer, for now I have seen with my own eyes.

9 Rejoice greatly, daughter of Sion; proclaim aloud, daughter of Jerusalem: behold, your king comes to you, righteous and saving is he, gentle and mounted upon a beast of burden, even a young colt.

10 And he will utterly destroy chariots from Ephraim and the horse from Jerusalem, and the bow of war will be destroyed, and there will be abundance and peace from the nations; and he will rule over the waters as far as the sea, and over the rivers to the outlets of the earth.

11 And you, by the blood of the covenant, have sent forth your prisoners from a pit that has no water.

12 You shall sit in a stronghold, prisoners of the congregation, and for one day of your sojourning I will repay you double;

13 for I have bent you, Judah, as a bow for myself; I have filled Ephraim, and I will rouse your children, Sion, against the children of the Greeks, and I will handle you like the sword of a warrior.

14 And the Lord will be over them, and a dart will go forth like lightning, and the Lord Almighty will blow the trumpet and will march in the tempest of his threat.

15 The Lord Almighty will shield them, and they will consume them and bury them under sling-stones, and they will drink them down like wine, and will fill the altar as with bowls.

16 And the Lord will save them on that day, his people like sheep, for holy stones roll upon his land.

17 For if anything is his good, and if anything his fair thing from him, it is grain for the young men and fragrant wine for the maidens.

Chapter 10

1 Ask rain from the Lord in its season, the early and the late rain; the Lord has made visible signs, and he will give them winter rain, herbage in the field to each.

2 For the diviners spoke troubles, and the seers false visions, and they spoke false dreams, they gave vain comfort; therefore they were carried off like sheep and were afflicted, because there was no healing.

3 Against the shepherds my anger was kindled, and I will visit the lambs; and the Lord God Almighty will visit his flock, the house of Judah, and will array them like his splendid horse in war.

4 And from him he looked forth, and from him he set in order, and from him a bow in anger; from him shall come forth every one that drives out at the same time.

5 And they shall be like warriors treading mud in the streets in war, and they shall set themselves in array, because the Lord is with them; and the riders of horses shall be put to shame.

6 And I will strengthen the house of Judah, and I will save the house of Joseph, and I will settle them, because I have loved them; and they shall be as though I had not turned them away, for I am the Lord their God and I will hear them.

7 And they shall be like the warriors of Ephraim, and their heart shall rejoice as with wine; and their children shall see and be glad, and their heart shall rejoice in the Lord.

8 I will signal to them and gather them in, for I will redeem them, and they shall be multiplied as they were many.

9 And I will sow them among peoples, and those far off shall remember me; they shall rear their children and shall return.

10 And I will bring them back from the land of Egypt, and I will gather them in from the Assyrians, and I will lead them into Gilead and into Lebanon, and not even one of them shall be left behind.

11 And they shall pass through a narrow sea, and they shall strike waves in the sea, and all the depths of the rivers shall be dried up, and all the arrogance of the Assyrians shall be taken away, and the scepter of Egypt shall be removed.

12 And I will strengthen them in the Lord their God, and in his name shall they boast, says the Lord.

Chapter 11

1 Open your doors, O Lebanon, and let fire devour your cedars.

2 Let the pine wail, because the cedar has fallen, because the mighty ones have greatly suffered; wail, O oaks of Bashan, because the thickly planted forest has been torn down.

3 A voice of shepherds lamenting, because their greatness has come to grief; a voice of lions roaring, because the pride of the Jordan has come to grief.

4 Thus says the Lord Almighty: Shepherd the sheep of slaughter,

5 which those who acquired them slaughtered and did not repent, and those who sold them said, "Blessed be the Lord, and we have become rich," and their shepherds felt nothing for them.

6 Therefore I will no longer spare those who inhabit the land, says the Lord; and behold, I am delivering the people, each into the hands of his neighbor and into the hands of his king, and they will cut the land to pieces, and I will by no means rescue it out of their hand.

7 And I will shepherd the sheep of slaughter in the land of Canaan; and I will take for myself two staffs, the one I called Beauty and the other I called Cord and I will shepherd the sheep.

8 And I will remove the three shepherds in one month, and my soul will be weighed down against them, for indeed their souls howled against me.

9 And I said, I will not shepherd you: let what is dying die, and let what is failing fail, and as for the rest, let each devour the flesh of his neighbor.

10 And I will take my beautiful staff and cast it away, to break my covenant which I made with all the peoples;

11 and it will be broken on that day, and the Canaanites will know the sheep that are being kept, because it is the word of the Lord.

12 And I will say to them: If it is good in your sight, give me my wage, or refuse; and they weighed out my wage, thirty pieces of silver.

13 And the Lord said to me: Put them into the furnace, and see whether it is genuine, in the manner in which I was tested for their sake. And I took the thirty pieces of silver and cast them into the house of the Lord, into the furnace.

14 And I cast away the second staff, the Cord, to break the possession between Judah and Israel.

15 And the Lord said to me: Take for yourself yet the implements of a shepherd, an unskilled shepherd.

16 For behold, I am raising up a shepherd over the land: what is perishing he will not visit, and what is scattered he will not seek, and what is broken he will not heal, and what is whole he will not guide, and the flesh of the choice ones he will devour and will twist their hoofs.

17 O you who shepherd the vain things and who have abandoned the sheep! A sword upon his arms and upon his right eye: his arm shall be utterly withered, and his right eye shall be utterly blinded.

Chapter 12

1 An oracle of the word of the Lord concerning Israel. Thus says the Lord, who stretches out the heaven and lays the foundation of the earth and forms the spirit of man within him:

2 Behold, I am making Jerusalem like shaken doorposts to all the peoples round about, and in Judea there shall be a siege against Jerusalem.

3 And it shall be in that day that I will make Jerusalem a stone trodden down by all the nations; everyone who tramples on her shall utterly mock her, and all the nations of the earth shall be gathered together against her.

4 In that day, says the Lord Almighty, I will strike every horse with panic and its rider with madness; but upon the house of Judah I will open my eyes, and I will strike all the horses of the peoples with blindness.

5 And the captains of thousands of Judah shall say in their hearts, "We shall find for ourselves the inhabitants of Jerusalem in the Lord Almighty, their God."

6 In that day I will make the captains of thousands of Judah like a firebrand among wood and like a torch of fire among stubble, and they shall devour on the right hand and on the left all the peoples round about, and Jerusalem shall dwell again by herself.

7 And the Lord shall save the tents of Judah as at the beginning, so that the boast of the house of David and the pride of the inhabitants of Jerusalem may not be magnified against Judah.

8 And it shall be in that day that the Lord shall shield the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and the one among them who is weak in that day shall be like the house of David, and the house of David like the house of God, like an angel of the Lord before them.

9 And it shall be in that day that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem. 10 And I will pour out upon the house of David and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and compassion, and they shall look to me because they have danced in triumph, and they shall mourn for him with a mourning as for a beloved one, and they shall grieve with grief as for a firstborn.

11 In that day the mourning shall be great in Jerusalem, like the mourning for a pomegranate grove cut down in the plain,

12 and the land shall mourn, tribe by tribe: a tribe by itself and their women by themselves; the tribe of the house of David by itself and their women by themselves; the tribe of the house of Nathan by itself and their women by themselves;

13 the tribe of the house of Levi by itself and their women by themselves; the tribe of Symeon by itself and their women by themselves;

14 all the tribes that remain, each tribe by itself and their women by themselves.

Chapter 13

1 In that day every place shall be opened in the house of David.

2 And it shall come to pass in that day, says the Lord, that I will utterly destroy the names of the idols from the land, and there shall no longer be any remembrance of them; and I will remove the false prophets and the unclean spirit from the land.

3 And it shall come to pass, if a man still prophesies, that his father and his mother who begot him shall say to him, "You shall not live, for you have spoken lies in the name of the Lord"; and his father and his mother who begot him shall bind him hand and foot when he prophesies.

4 And it shall come to pass in that day that the prophets shall be put to shame, each one because of his vision when he prophesies, and they shall put on a garment of haircloth because they have lied.

5 And he shall say, "I am no prophet, for I am a man who works the land, for a man begot me from my youth."

6 And I will say to him, "What are these wounds between your hands?" And he shall say, "Those with which I was struck in the house of my beloved."

7 Awake, O sword, against my shepherds and against the man who is my fellow citizen, says the Lord Almighty; strike the shepherds and pull out the sheep, and I will bring my hand against the shepherds.

8 And it shall come to pass in all the land, says the Lord, that two parts shall be utterly destroyed and shall perish, but the third shall be left in it.

9 And I will bring the third part through fire, and I will refine them as silver is refined, and I will test them as gold is tested; he shall call upon my name, and I will hear him and say, "This is my people," and he shall say, "The Lord is my God."

Chapter 14

1 Behold, days of the Lord are coming, and your spoils shall be divided in your midst.

2 And I will gather all the nations against Jerusalem for war, and the city shall be captured, and the houses shall be plundered, and the women shall be defiled, and half of the city shall go out into captivity, but the remnant of my people shall by no means be destroyed out of the city.

3 And the Lord shall go forth and array himself for battle against those nations, as in the day of his battle in the day of war.

4 And his feet shall stand in that day upon the Mount of Olives, which is opposite Jerusalem on the east; and the Mount of Olives shall be split, half of it toward the east and half of it toward the sea, an exceedingly great chasm; and half of the mountain shall lean toward the north and half of it toward the south.

5 And the valley of my mountains shall be blocked up, and the valley of the mountains shall be joined together as far as Iasol, and it shall be blocked up as it was blocked up in the days of the earthquake, in the days of Ozias king of Judah; and the Lord my God shall come, and all the holy ones with him.

6 In that day there shall be no light, but cold and frost;

7 it shall be one day, and that day is known to the Lord, and it shall be neither day nor night, and toward evening there shall be light.

8 And in that day living water shall go forth from Jerusalem, half of it into the first sea and half of it into the last sea, and in summer and in spring it shall be so.

9 And the Lord shall be king over all the earth; in that day the Lord shall be one and his name one,

10 encircling all the earth and the wilderness from Gabe to Remmon south of Jerusalem; but Rama shall remain in its place, from the gate of Benjamin to the place of the first gate, to the gate of the corners and to the tower of Ananeel, as far as the king's winepresses.

11 They shall dwell in it, and there shall be no more curse, and Jerusalem shall dwell securely.

12 And this shall be the plague with which the Lord will smite all the peoples, as many as marched against Jerusalem: their flesh shall waste away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall flow out of their sockets, and their tongue shall waste away in their mouth.

13 And in that day there shall be a great panic of the Lord upon them, and each shall seize the hand of his neighbor, and his hand shall be locked with the hand of his neighbor.

14 And Judah shall array itself for battle in Jerusalem, and shall gather the strength of all the peoples round about, gold and silver and clothing in exceedingly great abundance.

15 And this shall be the plague of the horses and the mules and the camels and the donkeys and all the beasts that are in those camps, according to this plague.

16 And it shall be that whoever is left of all the nations that came against Jerusalem shall go up year by year to worship the King, the Lord Almighty, and to keep the feast of tabernacles.

17 And it shall be that whoever of all the tribes of the earth does not go up to Jerusalem to worship the King, the Lord Almighty, even these shall be added to those.

18 And if the tribe of Egypt does not go up nor come there, then upon them shall be the plague with which the Lord will smite all the nations, whichever do not go up to keep the feast of tabernacles.

19 This shall be the sin of Egypt and the sin of all the nations, whichever do not go up to keep the feast of tabernacles.

20 In that day, that which is upon the bridle of the horse shall be holy to the Lord Almighty, and the cauldrons in the house of the Lord shall be as bowls before the altar,

21 and every cauldron in Jerusalem and in Judah shall be holy to the Lord Almighty; and all who sacrifice shall come and take of them and boil in them. And there shall no longer be a Canaanite in the house of the Lord Almighty in that day.
